ABOUT PROJECT

Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment of Urban Coastal Districts in Izmir Project funded by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye through the IPA II – Climate Change Adaptation Grant Programme, has launched on 12 December 2023 with the collaboration between the Ege University Department of Landscape Architecture and Society for Urban Ecology (SURE). In a span of 18 months, researchers from Türkiye, Romania, and Austria will jointly assess the vulnerability of Izmir’s coastal districts to climate hazards, such as urban floods, high temperatures, and storm surges. The project aims to enhance awareness by proposing Nature-based Solutions for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and conducting capacity building activities for various stakeholders, including local communities, civil society, private sector, central and local governments, and universities.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the projects is to conduct a vulnerability assessment in order to create resilient urban
coastal districts in Izmir in the context of climate change adaptation.
